Miniature Bull Terrier the little guard dog.
The miniature Bull terrier is a miniature breed of bull terrier dog especially developed by selective breeding. The appearance of a miniature bull terrier is very short in height. In early 1990s the dog’s weight used to determine the difference between two breeds, so the size of this dog started becoming almost as small as a Chihuahua. To prevent that, later (in 1970s) this weight limit got replaced by a new height limit. This is less than 14 inches but more than 10 inches. The guideline (AKC) says that a miniature Bull terriers Weight and height must proportionate to each other. They generally range between 20–35 lbs.
The standard Bull terrier (Miniature) has glossy and fine coats which are close to their skin. The color are generally white, fully colored or white with some other color. However, any liver or blue colored coats are not desirable.
This breed of dog has a strong build and full body with muscular shoulders. Their heads are egg shaped with a flat top and have roman muzzle.
Just like the Bull Terriers, their miniatures are loving but sometimes they are very stubborn also. They are known for their courage also. They are very active, clownish playful and energetic. They don’t like to stay alone for long. As they are very active, they don’t like places (such as small yards or room) where their activity is restricted. In this kind of situation they become very destructive. They often develop bad habits like tail chasing, incessant barking; destroying and chewing household things. Though they love to be with people, they hardly like other pets of their surroundings. They can easily become very jealous and possessive. They should be properly trained for that. Some people may think this mini Bull Terriers as a different breed of dogs. But in reality they are just the smaller size. Their nature is also very similar with Bull Terriers.
They can be groomed with very minimal effort. As their furs are too short in length it is enough to brush it once in a day or few times in a week to keep them in order.
Generally miniature bull terriers are very healthy dogs. But some dogs face problem with their eye, knee, skin and hearing. The rate of deafness is high in white miniature bull terrier and this problem is hereditary. They also have luxating patellas which is a common knee problem in many small dogs. This can be cured by surgery.
They should be kept in strict diet so that they don’t get obese. Though this breed of dog is almost perfect as a pet guard dog but a strict training is needed to grow up a miniature bull terrier. From the very childhood they require a vigorous training to socialize and obey orders. They should be taught not to grow unnecessary aggressiveness and protectiveness. If not trained properly it can become a danger for the family and the surroundings.
With a proper training a miniature bull terrier can become a loving member of a family.
